Farming Practices
We know that how we farm affects our vegetables, our health and our Earth, so we are very intentional about how we do it. Our farming approach is focused on strengthening the crops' defenses & nutrition through better soil management.
No Dig
Our vegetables get lots of benefits from the soil microbial communities, so we try to disturb those communities as little as possible as we work the land. We use tarps, compost and minimal tillage strategies to prepare our garden beds for each planting. This allows us to build up those beneficial communities and support the health & growth of our crops.
No Pesticides
We take advantage of biological processes to help promote the health and quality of our crops. We avoid the use of harsh pesticides and herbicides by boosting soil health, supplying natural predators and creating physical barriers for pests and disease. This keeps our soils clean and maintains the health of our fields for future seasons.
No Tractor
We use hand powered tools to cultivate the land. By limiting the use of tractors and other gas-powered tools, we are able to reduce our use of fossil-fuels and better manage the health of our soils. Plus, we love getting our hands in the dirt!
All Soil
The root of our farming practices (no pun intended!) is to promote soil health. Soil microbial communities provide vegetables with nutrients, defenses against pest & disease and can even help crops deal with our ever changing climate. We believe soil health is the key to maintaining a sustainable farming system.
